Latest models from Weather Outlook show the first snow is expected to fall over the Scottish Highlands from around midday on Thursday.

At the moment, it looks like rain will spread from the west on Saturday night and there a risk that it may fall as snow for a time in some parts, as it meets the cold air, but it will turn to rain later.

"By Friday the United Kingdom will be in an Arctic Maritime air mass with temperatures across the country staying in low single figures by day and below freezing by night". Rain coverage will then increase Tuesday afternoon and continue into early Wednesday morning. The front will bring temperatures that are well above average.

Even colder air will follow, with low temperatures falling to possibly the upper teens in north Alabama and 20s in central and south Alabama by Sunday morning. I'm still expecting sweater weather in the morning but it won't be almost as chilly as previous mornings. "But really the core of the cold air isn't going to arrive over the area until more toward Friday".

Tuesday will start off warm with temperatures in the 70s by midday as a line of rain and storms moves through by early afternoon associated with a strong cold front.

However, the bottom line is that you should never believe a detailed United Kingdom snow forecast more than three days ahead. The video below shows you why we will turn wintry in MI.

Thursday will once again bring mostly sunny skies with a high near 40.

Today will be the last of the mild weather, with top temperatures of between eight to 11 degrees. There'll be sunny spells and showers of rain, sleet, and snow. "It will be very cold and get progressively colder coming into Friday", he warned.

Snow is expected to start falling with sleet on Thursday and becoming more consistent throughout the weekend.

The coldest night of 2017 so far was January 30 when Braemar, Aberdeenshire, fell as low as -10.1C (13.8F). Temperatures should be in the low 30°s by Tuesday evening.

From Friday it will feel bitterly cold with temperatures struggling to get above freezing.
