Today, in the United States, we're rolling out a preview of Messenger Kids, a new app that makes it easier for kids to safely video chat and message with family and friends when they can't be together in person.

Lavallee, who is the content strategist at the Center on Media and Child Health at Boston Children's Hospital and Harvard University, said about the Messenger Kids a "useful tool" that "makes parents the gatekeepers".

Whilst kids can use the social media apps and the messaging apps which are designed for the adults and teenagers, those services aren't built for them, stated Kristelle Lavallee, a children's psychology expert, she suggested the Facebook on designing the service.

Kids will not show up in Facebook search results, so if a kid wants to chat with a friend, the parent will have to work with the friend's parent to get them both approved.

In addition to our research with thousands of parents, we've engaged with over a dozen expert advisors in the areas of child development, online safety and children's media and technology who've helped inform our approach to building our first app for kids.

JEREMY HUNT today blasted Facebook for launching a new app aimed directly at under-13s despite promising to protect young children.

Messenger Kids is only available on iOS, but will launch on Amazon and Google app stores in the coming months. And US Facebook users aged 45-54 account for 21% of total time spent on the platform, more than any other age group.

But kids, as kids, are learning at the fastest rates they ever will.

Social media just got a little more kid friendly!

Hooked on FacebookIs Messenger Kids is a way for the Facebook to rope in the young ones? When a child reports content or another account, Facebook says it will also notify a parent. "They want a level of control over their kids' digital world that is similar to the level they have in the real world".

Facebook's newest app is called Messenger Kids.

Hundreds of users were left clueless when they found their favourite social network messenger/chatting service, Facebook messenger down due to a worldwide outage.

After creating a Messenger Kids profile, parents can add contacts directly from their Facebook friends list, including family members and kids of your friends. Though, there are a few issues with this initial release, Facebook is taking steps in the right direction with Messenger Kids in that it keeps strangers out.

Neither of those things would happen, Facebook said.
