In eight years as an National Football League head coach with the New York Jets and Kansas City, Edwards compiled a 54-74 record. "That's what I do".

"Our goal for this football program is to reach unprecedented heights, and therefore we need to find a way to operate more innovatively and efficiently than we have in the past", Arizona State athletic director Ray Anderson said in a statement.

"Watch out for them Devils", Edwards said.

Graham, who will coach Arizona State through its appearance in the Sun Bowl against North Carolina State on December 29, compiled a 95-60 record in six seasons.

"You don't forget how to coach", Edwards said.

Welcome to Tempe, Coach Edwards!

In the game in 2012, Edwards had both Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston and Oakland Raiders receiver Amari Cooper on his team and to shed some light on the simplicity of coaching, he shared a story about introducing those players to each other that week.

Anthony Totri of the Arizona Republic noted this dichotomy in a tweet: "At one point Herm Edwards said the players aren't playing for the names on the back of their jerseys, rather they play for the name on the front (Sun Devils)".

This will mark Edwards' second go-around at the collegiate level, but his first as a head coach.

This season, Arizona State posted a 7-5 record and face N.C. State in the Sun Bowl on December 29. After spending three seasons as San Jose State's defensive backs coach, he took the same position with the Chiefs in 1992.

Do you think Edwards has no clue that he is head coach of the Sun Devils? He went 18-19 in the final three seasons but guided the school to a bowl game for the fifth time in sixth seasons this year. He split time with the Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Rams in his final season.
