At UCF, Frost built the nation's No. 1 scoring offense while leading the Knights to an undefeated record and conference championship. He said they looked excited. The state of Nebraska and the Husker program mean a great deal to me.

"I am thrilled that Scott is returning to his alma mater to lead the Husker football program", Moos said in a statement. Riley only had one season in which the Huskers had a winning season. "These things happen at the wrong time".

"They should give you time off after the season to make a decision, but they don't", Frost said when asked about the reports he had accepted the job.

And he said the time to do that is right.

Frost said he never expected a 12-0 season.

Scott Frost hired as Nebraska's new head football coach

"2017 has been one of the best years of my life". At Stanford he was coached by Hall of Famer Bill Walsh, and of course Tom Osborne at Nebraska.

Frost played for and coached under some of the top coaches around. Frost was then drafted by the Jets and played five seasons in the National Football League with New York, Cleveland and Tampa Bay. He also spent time at Northern Iowa as linebackers coach and defensive coordinator in 2007 and 2008. "A lot of coaches when they get a bigger job, or change from one school to another think they need to go out and hire some different people; the guys that helped us when there can help us when here and I expect the majority of them to join me".

The Huskers are coming off their worst season in a half-century, but Frost said he believes the leadership is in place to bring glory back to Nebraska.

Frost and his staff will coach the Golden Knights in their bowl game - likely the January 1 Peach Bowl - even as several assistants, including future Husker defensive coordinator Erik Chinander, follow Frost to Nebraska.

He inherited an 0-12 football team at the end of the 2015 season and quickly turned the program around, helping the Knights earn their first 11-0 regular season record in school history and a No. 14 ranking by the College Football Playoff committee - the highest mark by any Group of 5 school since the playoff system started in 2014.
