Best movie ever? 'Lady Bird' becomes best-reviewed on Rotten Tomatoes

If we're being precise, the best film since Toy Story 2, as that was the last flick to garner a flawless 100 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Saoirse won Best Actress for her work in Lady Bird and Timothee was awarded the Breakthrough Actor prize for his work in Call Me By Your Name.

The film, released earlier this month in the United States, is a coming-of-age story about a high-school senior (Saoirse Ronan) and her turbulent relationship with her mother (Laurie Metcalf).

Lady Bird's audience score sits at 86%.

Only two other films in the websites history have managed to achieve a 100 per cent positive score with over 100 reviews - 2008 documentary Man on Wire, and Isabelle Hupperts drama Things to Come previous year.

Additionally, averaged across all of the available reviews, Lady Bird's aggregate critical score on Rotten Tomatoes comes in at an 8.9 out of 10, compared to an 8.6 average for the Toy Story sequel.

Since its November 3 release, Lady Bird has made more than $10 million, despite having played in only 800 or so theaters nationwide. Lady Bird, however, has now topped it with 170 reviews, meaning the Great Gerwig-directed, Saorise Ronan-starring dramedy is now the best-reviewed film in the site's history. That there has been such a warm reception is a dream come true. It's hard to imagine how she could've made a better first impression. Thank you to everyone who has seen the film and has written about it so thoughtfully.

"It's unbelievable", Gerwig told Vanity Fair, adding that her younger brother had told her the news and even he was "slightly skeptical" that her film had beat the animated movie.

She added, "We are all on cloud nine and using our tomato emoji more than we ever thought possible".

The film is due for Irish release on February 16th, 2018.
