Florida expected to hire Dan Mullen

The Florida Gators had their sights set on Central Florida's Scott Frost for their coaching vacancy but the UCF coach is apparently not interested.

"But hey, money talks", Prescott said.

Mullen has been with the Bulldogs for nine years and is 69-46. One of four players in FBS history and the second player in SEC history (Tim Tebow) to throw for 70 touchdowns and rush for 40 touchdowns in a career.

Florida just completed an absolutely miserable season in which it went 4-7.

He was named the first-team All-SEC quarterback in both 2014 and 2015.

Mullen was formerly an assistant coach at Florida during Urban Meyer's stint at the school. Mississippi State will play in a bowl game for the eighth straight season.

Mississippi State knows Dan Mullen is a pretty hot commodity these days and is prepared to "go all in" to try and keep him in Starkville, a source told SI Friday morning. Assuming this deal gets done, Mullen will be reunited with AD Scott Stricklin, who worked with the coach from 2010-2016 when he was serving in that capacity at Mississippi State.

Former Gators coach Jim McElwain was sacked in late October after the team was beaten by Georgia.

The news comes after the Gators whiffed on Chip Kelly, who opted to return to the Pac-12 with the UCLA Bruins.
