Loftus-Cheek eyeing World Cup

It was a night of experimentation, a time to blood the youngsters in a game that could be the start of a new-look England team and a 0-0 draw with world champions Germany was a decent outcome.

The Chelsea player, now on loan at fellow Premier League side Crystal Palace continued: "It could have been better, if we had won it would have been better". Now I have the opportunity to play in the Premier League every week.

"I felt like I needed to play a lot, so I came in and said I wanted to go away from Chelsea and play games".

The stand-out performer was Ruben Loftus-Cheek who despite failing to break into the Chelsea first-team, showed he has the quality to compete on the global stage. "There are no guarantees but I have a better chance of playing, so being at Palace gives me the platform to learn and develop".

Gareth Southgate has said his successor as England manager may end up benefiting most from the current setup's commitment to youth progression, with a trio of players from the England under-21s called up for Tuesday's friendly against Brazil.

The stats make for good reading as Loftus-Cheek had a 96 percent pass completion rate, completing 50 successful passes out of 52.

"I see things in him that lead me to believe he can play at this level and I think he showed that tonight".

"Dele has played around 200 games now and he's only 21 - I honestly do believe Loftus-Cheek has the ability to be equally as good as him, no question about it".

"He has great technical quality, dribbling ability, power, I think he's a really exciting player".

At Palace I feel like a first-team player and I have got the opportunity to play every week.

You sense, talking to Loftus-Cheek, that he has a sensible head on his shoulders.

The Three Lions' starting lineup was made up of just one player aged 30 or over - Jamie Vardy - while five stars were handed their senior bows by Southgate on the Wembley turf.

"What we've seen is Gareth will pick those players". He was really happy for me and just said go and enjoy it.
