The Manhattan district attorney has also assigned a senior sex crimes prosecutor to the case, working in collaboration with NY police, his office confirmed.

De la Huerta told CBS News that the first rape occurred in October 2010 after Weinstein gave her a ride home from a party, insisted on having a drink in her apartment and forced himself on her.

Speaking to Vanity Fair on Wednesday, de la Huerta described being "terrified" of Weinstein, who she said assaulted her and then left her in a state of shock.

Ms De La Huerta told Vanity Fair Magazine that she first met Mr Weinstein when she was 14 and the attacks took place when she was 26. The disgraced movie producer, 65, showed up at her building after repeatedly calling her, according to the publication.

She joins dozens of women who have already leveled allegations of sexual abuse against Weinstein. "No doubt", Boyce said.

Boyce told reporters Friday that because this impending case dates back seven years, an arrest of Weinstein couldn't be made immediately. A Weinstein spokesperson has "unequivocally denied" any accusations of non-consensual sex.

She claimed Weinstein raped her twice in 2010, according to a New York Post report on Thursday.

De la Huerta has been locked in a legal battle with Lionsgate over her work in the movie Nurse 3D. "He raped me." She says she never heard from Weinstein again after that night. "As this is an active investigation, we will not be commenting further".

Officers have received 11 separate allegations of sexual assault on dates ranging from the 1980s to 2015, both in London and outside the United Kingdom.

"A senior sex crimes prosecutor is assigned to this investigation, and the Office has been working with our partners in the NYPD since the new allegations came to light".
