A trilateral meeting of the Azerbaijani, Russian and Iranian presidents will be held in Tehran today.

However, the nuclear deal came up during Putin's meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

The president pointed out that Iran and Russian Federation have contributed to not only fighting terrorism in Syria, but have been successfully involved in a peaceful negotiations process to solve the crisis, having paved the way for political settlement in the war-torn country.

"We proved to the world that we are able to resolve our region's highly important issues without (any help from) extra-regional countries", he said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in Iran on Wednesday for trilateral talks with Tehran and Azerbaijan, offered his support to the Islamic Republic's nuclear deal under threat by President Donald Trump's refusal to re-certify the accord. I would like to stress that we are working with Iran in a very productive way.

"We are managing to coordinate our positions on the Syrian issue", Putin said. Our cooperation can isolate the United States.

Putin is to hold separate talks with Rouhani and supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as Russian Federation and Iran cooperate on a range of issues including the conflict in Syria.

Russian Federation has criticized Trump's disavowal of the nuclear agreement, which has opened a 60-day window for the U.S. Congress to act to reimpose economic sanctions on Iran. Trump has threatened to pull out of the nuclear deal, unless its alleged flaws, including what he calls its failure to contain Iran's missile and regional activities, are removed.

"We oppose any unilateral change in the multilateral nuclear deal", Putin told Khamenei, Iranian state TV reported.

"The outcome of this cooperation has showed that Tehran and Moscow can achieve common goals on challenging fronts", he added.

Iran has expressed a desire to show that USA approval is not needed for regional cooperation.

President Ilham Aliyev also for his part said while he is in Iran he feels that he is in his own home.
