The Dane's victory margin assured her of a last-four berth after the loss of four games in two matches while Halep lives to fight another day with her opening straight-sets win over Caroline Garcia giving her a 1-1 record in the Red Group.

Wozniacki has qualified along with Karolina Pliskova but the Dane is not guaranteed to finish top ahead of her final round-robin match against Garcia, who remains in contention along with Svitolina and Halep in a group which will be decided on Friday.

At the WTA Finals in Singapore, Caroline Garcia took part in a unique interview.

"I thought I played really well out there", Wozniacki said.

Woznaicki, 27, produced a near flawless display to dismantle Halep 6-0, 6-2 at the WTA Finals to record her second dominant win of the tournament following her opening win over Elina Svitolina.

Halep had looked in fine form in her win over Garcia but could not find her rhythm against Wozniacki, who raced through the first set in just 24 minutes. Again I question if Svitolina is 100 percent or if fatigue / injury is preventing her from playing to the level we've seen for much of the year.

"It feels different but I'm sure the experience of the past year will help me", Garcia says about her singles debut. Halep looked downright bad in her last match, winning just 29 percent of her return points and 44 percent of her total service points.

"The loss of the first set was very hard because I had some chances and some set points, but sometimes you have to just let it go and keep going. Also I did some good shots, good points, and I missed too many to win a match". "I'll try to forget this day and try to play my next game as if nothing had happened", said the Ukrainian, dépitée.

Elina Svitolina is coming off a three sets loss to Caroline Garcia that took 34 games to decide. I think if I just could keep the ball in, I could have been much better. "Also, the court is a little bit slow and I just felt heavy", she added.

It appeared a sprightlier Svitolina was about to end Garcia's hopes of going through when she broke for the fifth time in the match, but there was a final swing in momentum as Garcia won four matches on the spin to pull off a crucial win which was sealed when her opponent netted a forehand at full stretch. I tried to be even more aggressive, tried to use down-the-line, and I was more and more accurate and I went for it on the good shots.
