Shin Megami Tensei V has been officially revealed by Atlus today in a livestream. When the stream kicked off with a montage of all the previous main series games and their year of release, Shin Megami Tensei V was all but confirmed.

We also get another look at the game's possibly post-apocalyptic setting via a brand-new teaser trailer. To see it, skip to the last five minutes of the above video. Afterwards, the students find themselves surrounded by demons in a wasteland before being seemingly devoured by them. A modern Tokyo train station is showcased in addition to some bloody carnage and demons hitting the city. For the time being, it appears that Shin Megami Tensei 5 will only be for the Switch and will forgo the Nintendo 3DS unlike many of its predecessors before it. The Shin Megami Tensei series used to rarely venture outside of Japan, but the brand brought in a new wave of worldwide fans with the Persona spinoff games. Those who jumped onto the series with Persona 5 might want to keep an eye on this one. That should bode well for Shin Megami Tensei V's release hopes in the West, though no formal announcement has been made yet.
