For users that have not opted out of personalized recommendations, Microsoft can display targeted advertising in the start menu, Edge, and other apps.

The Dutch DPA investigated Windows 10 Home and Pro and found that Microsoft still doesn't properly inform users about the type of data it collects, nor for what objective.

MICROSOFT HAS BEEN FOUND GUILTY of breaching Dutch data protection laws in the way that it collects telemetry metadata in Windows 10. Microsoft does not clearly inform users about the type of data it uses, and for which objective. The company does not clearly inform users that it continuously collects personal data about the usage of apps and web surfing behaviour through its web browser Edge, when the default settings are used.

According to the Dutch DPA, the goal of telemetry is two-fold. With Voice Search, you can simply use your voice to perform a web search, a feature that could come in handy at times. Do people know about this, do they want this?

On Friday, DPA said that they conducted a thorough investigation of Microsoft Windows 10 Home and Pro operating systems, and found that the users are not clearly informed "about the type of data it uses, and for which goal".

The application is not yet launched officially, and for both the platform it is an unreleased app, but the difference is that on iOS platform an only limited number of users can use it while on Android anyone can download it.

I'm traveling today-I guess I really missed driving between Boston and Pennsylvania, so I'm doing it again for kicks-but I did download Microsoft Edge Preview on Android at a rest area in CT. The collection of the full telemetry data is thus more unpredictable.

Microsoft highlighted the continue feature of Edge that lets you continue on PC what you left off on mobile.

The Dutch DPA exemplified the fact that Microsoft collects data about which news articles users read in the Edge browser, without making them aware that this data is being collected. On installation the telemetry level is set to full by default and the user is asked to accept the offered settings. Further, the company said that the Creators Update and upcoming Fall Creators Update will make it easier for the users to control their privacy options.

This is the hottest attempt by the Redmont-based company to bump up its presence across the smartphone platform- by offering its apps to Android and iOS users when Windows Phone is officially dead.
