The fuel tanks were in the line of sight during Mr Paddock's attack on concert-goers, but it is not known if he was specifically targeting the containers.

Authorities found 19 weapons from his home in Mesquite, a small city in Nevada, and 23 in the Mandalay Bay Hotel room in Las Vegas from where Paddock opened fire on 22,000 people attending a concert at a country music festival on Sunday night.

The tanks sit on property owned by McCarran International Airport. "She didn't even know that she was going to the Philippines, until Steve said, 'Marilou, I found you a cheap ticket to the Philippines, '" one sister said.

One week earlier, he had rented an apartment overlooking another open-air music festival in downtown Las Vegas.

Paddock is believed to have killed himself as the police descended on his room.

The girlfriend of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock returned to the United States today from the Philippines, where she had received $100,000 from him before he massacred 58 people, authorities in Manila said.

Some of the firearms recovered from his hotel room had scopes, while two were reportedly modified to make them fully automatic.

The carnage inflicted by the gunman, whom authorities have identified as Stephen Paddock, was "obviously premeditated", Lombardo said at news conference Tuesday afternoon.

In a statement read by her lawyer, the 62-year-old said she knew Paddock as a kind, caring, quiet man, and that she loved him and hoped for a quiet future with him.
