Trump authorizes 10-day Jones Act waiver for Puerto Rico

After President Donald Trump attacked her handling of the disaster response to Hurricane Maria, San Juan's mayor said she would not be "distracted by small comments, by politics, by petty issues".

"They can not wait a month, we can not wait", Solivan said.

Rossello said the Trump administration has given his government "whatever we ask for" in the immediate aftermath of the hurricane.

He also suggested that Cruz had been told to criticize the president by "the Democrats" after earlier praising the relief efforts.

Miranda, a playwright and actor who created and starred in "Hamilton", is the son of Luis A. Miranda, Jr., who moved to NY from Puerto Rico when he was 17. "This is the time to show our 'true colors, '" she said, posting pictures of Puerto Ricans helping others.

Three-star Lt. General Jeffery Buchanan will lead all military efforts in the situation, officials said.

Its officials have accused Washington of not moving fast enough to help them, as the island tries to recover from the damage, including the loss of most of the electrical, gas and water grid.

The president and First Lady Melania Trump will travel to Puerto Rico on Tuesday, and have tentative plans to include the U.S. Virgin Islands in their itinerary, Trump said.

Trump's Homeland Security chief told reporters Friday that the government's response to Maria was a 'good news story'.

Trump tweeted: 'Fake News CNN and NBC are going out of their way to disparage our great First Responders as a way to "get Trump". When you don't have food for a baby, it's not a good news story'.

"This is a "people are dying" story, this is a life and death story, this is a truckload of stuff that can not be taken to people story", the mayor said on the verge of tears and sounding exhausted. "This is a life-or-death story". CNN reports that there are about 10,000 containers loaded with food, water and supplies have arrived at the Port of San Juan, but have not been moved because of the devstation to the island's infrastructure and a shortage of available truck drivers.
