Judge's teammates had to convince him to walk up the dugout steps to acknowledge the fans saluting him at Yankee Stadium. The way Judge is mashing at the plate right now, he's the kind of player who could single-handedly lift the Yankees to where they want to go. McGwire set the record in 1987 as a member of the Oakland Athletics with 49 home runs.

Judge, 25, smashed his first homer of the game 389 feet in the third before striking another 408 feet in the seventh.

In spring training, Judge nearly wasn't named the starting right fielder.

Greg Bird and Gary Sanchez, the latter as part of back-to-back homers with Judge in the seventh, also went deep for the playoff-bound Yanks (87-69).

The Yankees have six games remaining this season for Judge to take sole possession of the rookie home run record.

In the first 10 games of this road trip, the Royals had broken the Cleveland Indians' 22-game winning streak, witnessed Alex Gordon set the major-league record for homers in a season and watched Mike Moustakas surpass Steve Balboni's 32-year-old franchise record. Solid pitching from CC Sabathia also helped with the victory.

"Just the way they run that whole team there, from the GM down, it was a fun atmosphere", said Judge of his stay in Trenton.

In his first attempt at getting the 50th homer, Judge struck out with a runner on third in the fifth.

"Obviously it would be a great accomplishment".

7 - Judge's seven multi-homer games this year leads the AL, second in Major League Baseball to Giancarlo Stanton's nine with Miami. Meaning the Yanks will in all likelihood have a date with the Twins in the Wild Card Game next Tuesday, Oct. 3.

Junis gave up six runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings. He allowed six hits in six-plus innings.

Marwin Gonzalez had two hits and scored twice in the fourth, as well as scoring a homer in the sixth, to leave his Houston side two games behind American League champions Cleveland after wrapping up an 11-2 win.
