Canelo vs. Golovkin: Predictions from LA Times writers

Cotto is aiming to fight the victor of the Alvarez-Golovkin bout before the end of 2017.

When reviewing both fighters' most recent efforts respectively, Canelo and GGG failed to show a sense of urgency in attempting to put their individual opponent away.

So logically, many do believe that Golovkin's only chance to beat the red-headed fighter from Jalisco is by a clean and resounding knock-out.

And although many critics dismiss those victories and May's one-sided beating of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., veteran matchmaker Don Chargin says Alvarez's development of a whipping left hand to the body has reached near perfection - a throwback to the legacy of the best warrior boxers from Mexico.

But after both men hit the scales bang on the 160-pound mark Canelo told BoxNation that he is raring to go and will capture the Kazakh knockout king's WBC, WBA, IBF and IBO world titles. As such, fans may be wondering if Canelo vs. GGG is on Showtime on Saturday night. A complete fight card can be found below. "It all depends on who lands the punch that defines the fight and I think Gennady is going to do that", said Abel Sanchez, Golovkin's trainer. “I am going to give the fans a special fight – a real fight.

Alvarez is 49-1-1 with 34 knockouts to his name, his lone loss coming to Mayweather in 2013, when he was still relatively inexperienced.

Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin are two of the very best in the sport today, and perhaps of all time. It's the fight boxing fans have been waiting for nearly as long. Then you have a killer in GGG, who until his last fight, had never gone the full 12 rounds in his professional career, having finished 33 of his opponents via KO. He scored an eighth-round TKO over David Lemieux two years ago to win another middleweight belt, and he retained his titles in March with a unanimous decision victory over Daniel Jacobs.

"I am very excited to be finally fighting in Las Vegas, but I am more excited that it is against Canelo".
