Ronaldo is eligible to feature in Wednesday's Champions League group-stage opener at home to Cypriot side APOEL, as Madrid looks to get back to winning ways and begin the defence of its European crown in strong fashion.

"The same thing happened previous year so we're not anxious at all, the opposite", said Zidane, who is the first coach to successfully defend the European Cup since 1990 and has won seven trophies since taking charge of Real in January 2016.

"We all thought it was odd that Barcelona could not keep him but he is a great player and will be fantastic for them". At the end of the day it wasn't to be, above all with Morata.

"I admire Messi - he's never complained to me in any game we played", he added.

'If I would go to PSG? I believe in Mayoral.

"I prefer Cristiano to be with us always".

Zidane elected to leave Mayoral out of his squad for the match against but confirmed that he will be on the list for APOEL.

Ronaldo still has another of the five-game ban he was given for pushing the referee to serve at the weekend, but his return in Europe should give Madrid both firepower and a confidence boost.

"We can't be happy with the results, especially the last one, but we're not going to change the way we work, just as we didn't previous year".

They showed they are no pushovers last season when they knocked Athletic Club Bilbao out of the last 32 of the Europa League. Cristiano does more than score goals. Cristiano brings not only goals, but is a leader as well and he always wants to win.

"And we are happy too, because he is mentally very well, physically very fine".
