England boss Gareth Southgate has suggested that he was pleased with his side's performance as the Three Lions recorded a 4-0 win in Malta. The Three Lions weren't very good for most of the match, but scored the goals in the second half and got an important win on the road to Russian Federation.

Harry Kane (53′, 90'+2′), Ryan Bertrand (85′), and Danny Welbeck (90'+1′) are goal stars of the England national team today.

"When that opening goal doesn't come, playing against a packed defence, you've got to show some real courage and stick to the game plan, be patient, and wait for your opportunities", the newspaper reported that Southgate added. In the last five matches of England in World Cup Qualifying UEFA and International Friendly, they have won one match, lost two matches and the other two matches ended in a draw.

Barring the 3-2 win over Germany before Euro 2016 and the last-gasp victory over Wales at the tournament, it's hard to remember too many games in which supporters can say they've been entertained from start to finish.

"Of course, we've got a lot to improve on".

England are next in action when they host Slovakia on Monday evening.

Southgate reacted to a tepid first-half performance by introducing Marcus Rashford, the forward replacing the ineffective Sterling on the left flank.

Rashford created it after refusing to follow Kyle Walker's instruction and put the ball out because a Malta player was injured instead teeing up Kane.

I was much less critical of England than Hoddle - yes, this was not free-flowing football against a thoroughly outclassed rival but the performance of a group of players that are still very early in the domestic season and unlikely to be firing on all cylinders until the next round of worldwide fixtures in October. The expectation is high that you'll run away with the game.

"We have seen lots of England's home games and they have unbelievable quality".

"When you're a striker everyone kind of looks to you for the goals, so I'm happy to be there and happy to get those goals, get the important goals", said Kane. Monday's game against Slovakia will be completely different.

Kozak is expected to recall former Liverpool centre-back Martin Skrtel and his defensive partner Jan Durica, both of whom missed the encounter with Slovenia through suspension.
