But with the Liga club under a transfer ban until January, Costa's immediate future appears to lie at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea including the Brazil-born Spain global in their Premier League squad on Friday.

Linked to a move to Europe, (including Milan), Costa has emphasized that he wants to return to his former club, which has been drawn in Group C of this year's Champions League, the same as Chelsea's. However, the Spaniard does not appear to have any interest in doing so and the Telegraph claim that he will continue his feud with Antonio Conte rather than return to England.

Costa was expected to leave the club after being deemed surplus to requirements, but the striker failed to secure a transfer to his preferred Atletico Madrid.

Atletico and Chelsea were locked in talks through the final week of the transfer window but a breakthrough was still to be reached before the deadline passed in Spain on Friday evening.

Chelsea have taken the shock decision of including castaway striker Diego Costa in their Premier League squad.

Courtois got the ball rolling by posting a picture to social media of him celebrating Chelsea's Premier League title triumph with Costa.

Costa recently criticised Chelsea and head coach Conte.

Meanwhile, Costa has been encouraged to return to fitness by Spain team-mate Sergio Ramos.

"I find a team that has made a huge financial commitment for a Real Madrid substitute".

'I could say a thousand things on Diego Costa, ' said Real Madrid defender Ramos.

"They have given me everything".
