Multiple reports confirm that Drinkwater, 27, has handed in a transfer request with Antonio Conte's Chelsea said to be in talks with Leicester about acquiring the England global midfielder.

Jose Mourinho has registered late interest in signing Chelsea target Riyad Mahrez with the Manchester United boss keen to launch a £50m bid for the Leicester attacker, according to a report in the Independent.

Sources have told ESPN FC that Drinkwater is interested but that Leicester had not told him he would have to hand in a transfer request in order to spark a move.

Chelsea manager Anontio Conte - set to miss out on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, with the Arsenal man trying to seal a Liverpool move - is keen to sign the England global as a replacement for Nemanja Matic, who went to Manchester United in a £40million deal earlier this summer.

Drinkwater would reunite with his former teammate Ngolo Kante with the midfield duo who played a vital role in Leicester City's stunning Premier League win in 2015.

Drinkwater's move to Chelsea will come as a big relieve for Antonio Conte after Arsenal star Alex Chamberlain turned down a mega move to Stamford Bridge.

"If Danny comes to Chelsea, (Tiemoue) Bakayoko has cost £40million, Kante everybody loves".

'If I was Danny I'd go somewhere where I would play personally'.
