United have won 12 of the 18 Premier League meetings against the Potters, but were unable to beat them last season, drawing 1-1 both home and away.

Rashford had been left out of the side for Frenchman Anthony Martial but he came off the bench and met a Henrikh Mkhitaryan corner with a side-footed finish in the 70th minute to set up United's third win out of three.

"We have players that are in the starting 11 and the players that are on the bench to try and make the difference and this year I feel like we have more fire power and different dimensions of playing styles, so we put ourselves in better stead for games like this which are hard".

That came after Kasper Schmeichel had produced an inspired performance, saving Romelu Lukaku's second-half penalty as part of a fine individual display, with Leicester defending doggedly to remain in the game until the closing stages.

"I think we played very well", manager Jose Mourinho said.

Manchester United Team to play Leicester City: De Gea, Valencia, Bailly, Jones, Blind, Pogba, Matic, Mata, Mkhitaryan, Martial, Lukaku.

United had them pegged back for most of this game, but the defense put in a magnificent shift and did everything to cut off the threat of Martial and Mkhitaryan. By far Leicester's best player on the day.

"I think they are the same team as they were two seasons ago". Were they unsafe against us? No. Why?

The tricky Algerian twisted and turned past United players but came closest when Demarai Gray slipped him in for a shot on goal, however, the pass was slightly too heavy, forcing the Mahrez wider than he would have wanted to be.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that United were made to work hard for it, but they grabbed the three points at the end of a nervy encounter at Old Trafford.

The game will be a good indication of where each team stands and what their aspirations for the season should be.

Schmeichel senior enjoyed a decorated career with Manchester United, but the 129-time Denmark global was unable to keep out any of the three Premier League spot-kicks he faced at Old Trafford.

"Of course, we needed to do a bit better with the ball at times but I felt for large chunks of the game we frustrated, restricted". Came to claim the ball well whenever needed, too: it is unusual to think that this was once a weaker part of his game.

Manchester United's manager Jose Mourinho has spoken about the team's need for further players this transfer window and the club are monitoring the situations of several top players right now.
