Arsene Wenger Admits His Best Player Could Leave

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists he wants his successor to outshine him.

After sitting out of Arsenal's Premier League opener against Leicester City with a dubious "abdominal strain", Alexis Sanchez has caused yet another ripple of consternation among concerned Gooners by Tweeting from Paris.

He has been linked to Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, and the latter may well have stolen a march on the potential suitors after the 28-year-old revealed he was actually in the French capital on Sunday.

Arsenal are becoming increasingly concerned that Alexis Sanchez might yet force his way out of the Emirates before the end of the transfer window. They would look at it and ask why the club are selling him to a Premier League rival.

"However, it's the Man City situation that's the concern and we've seen it all before with Robin van Persie's move to Manchester United".

And Merson thinks the Arsenal fans are firmly behind the Arsenal manager's firm stance.

Having ended months of speculation by signing a new two-year contract, he is looking forwards and says that if the team put on a united front, the fans will fall into line behind them.

"They are not anxious about the money because they aren't the ones getting it". All our players got a decent number of minutes of good competition, so overall the squad looks good.

"He had a scan two days ago and he's out for a while - I don't know if it two weeks or one more week, but he will not be available". "When a player goes into the final year of their contract, we will try to extend the contract because there is no reason we shouldn't do it, but we are not there yet".
