Everton vs Stoke 12 Aug 2017: EPL Preview and Predictions

The decorated forward's goal was the only moment of note in a tiresome opening period.

The Toffees' highest profile signing was Wayne Rooney, who grew up an Everton fan and started his professional career with the club.

After moving back to Everton this summer, the chance to pull on the Blue shirt again and play at Goodison Park in the Premier League, in front of my family and friends, really excites me, which is why our opening game against Stoke can not come soon enough.

"A hard game, Stoke City is always a battle", he remarked. "That is why we signed Wayne - expecting to show his team-mates all that experience, and it was really important", he said.

Rooney had already played one home game - a Europa League qualifier against Ruzomberok - in his second spell as an Evertonian following his close-season move from Manchester United.

The 31-year-old, playing just behind debutant Spanish striker Sandro Ramirez, delivered some clever passes and fed the lively Calvert-Lewin with some perfectly weighted through balls.

"We need to find other ways and we need to find productivity from other players".

"If we get in all the players we wants and have Bolasie and Coleman back then it is a totally different picture".

I think Everton will win this game.

Veteran midfielder Darren Fletcher soon fizzed a reminder of Stoke's threat past the post although moments of promise were far too fleeting for the visitors.

Quiet for much of the opening 45 minutes, the homegrown hero exploded into life with a well-taken victor in first-half stoppage-time. It was a win and that's what you like to have after the first match.

Hopefully, now I can start to repay them with good performances and goals as we all strive to take the club to the next level.

"He was always going to be part of the story today".
