"As of now, the (PDP-BJP) coalition government is running on Agenda of Alliance (AoA) in which we have maintained status quo on on the constitutional matters", Singh told reporters in Jammu.

After her meeting with the Prime Minister, Mehbooba had said, "Discussions on 35A have a negative impact on Jammu and Kashmir, it should not happen".

"Jammu people should be given a chance to hold a referendum on whether Article 35A should stay or go", said Mr. Rana, while describing Pakistan statement over the issue "a ploy". "That's the only part of this meeting that matters at all", Abdullah tweeted after Mehbooba-Modi meeting.

NC general secretary and former minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar and the party's provincial president Nasir Aslam Wani in a joint statement said, "Post Mufti's meeting with the Prime Minister, senior BJP functionaries have made it abundantly clear that it will continue to actively seek ways and means to strike down Article 35A and there had been no change in their stand on the issue".

They also lashed out at the puppet Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, saying that she used to visit the bereaved families of martyrs, especially in south Kashmir, and shed tears, but after assuming power she had become the most brutal and had defeated all previous records of oppression and tyranny in the occupied territory.

Government Medical Colleges in J&K do not have adequately experienced and qualified faculties of super specialties and even the doctors from other states are not recruited due to local Permanent Resident related laws that could be amended without any difficulty but are not amended, why?

He said the CM should clarify whether the Prime Minster gave an assurance that his party would drop its demand for the scrapping of the Article 370.

Article 35A is a provision in the Indian Constitution which saved the "pre-existing State Subject Law" of permanent residents of the state and their special rights and privileges. The response of the Prime Minister is positive.

He said that the PDP-BJP government had been formed on the Agenda of Alliance and "We are committed to it". They just want to change the demography of Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of the debate on Article 35A of the Constitution that grants special status to the state and is being challenged in the Supreme Court.

What seems to have triggered Mehbooba to make the hitherto unthinkable journey to Farooq Abdullah for his counsel is the Union government's recent submission in the Supreme Court during a hearing in the case.
