Developing: Explosion reported at Islamic Center in Bloomington

The impact at Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center in Bloomington happened soon after 5 a.m. neighborhood time as the mosque was get ready for Fajr, or the early-morning supplication, the Muslim American Society of Minnesota said.

The Minnesota section of the Council on American-Islamic Relations additionally said it was putting forth a $10,000 compensate.

Mohamed Omar, the center's executive director, says a worshipper saw a pickup truck speeding away afterward.

The FBI announced Saturday afternoon it was taking over the investigation. The explosion went off in the imam's office, which is where most of the damage was limited too.

Trevin Miller, who lives over the road from the mosque, said the blast woke him up.


Community members extinguished the fire before first repsonders arrived.

The mosque had recently been the target of harassment, receiving threatening and hateful messages, Mr. Omar told The Star Tribune.

Agents from the FBI and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are on the scene, along with Bloomington police.

"If a bias motive is proven, this attack would represent another in a long list of hate incidents targeting Islamic institutions nationwide in recent months", Malik said.

Asad Zaman, director of the Muslim-American Association of Minnesota, said the organisation is offering a $10,000 (£7,700) reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

"We love our Muslim neighbors", Simon Trautmann, a city counselor, said at a news conference.
