'Kevin Can Wait' Is Killing Off Erinn Hayes's Character

It was the strangest twist of the TV season: In June, shortly after the first season finale of CBS' Kevin James sitcom "Kevin Can Wait", the show's creators chose to get rid of the character played by Erinn Hayes, who starred as James's wife.

Last season, Kevin James and Leah Remini reunited on "Kevin Can Wait". "Obviously, the chemistry [between James and Remini] was incredible in the stunt episodes". After the case was closed, Kevin returned home to learn that Donna had quit her job as a school nurse after being passed up for a promotion, meaning the pair of them were now unemployed. She was played by Erinn Hayes, who has exited the series.

CBS senior executive VP Thom Sherman said: "Obviously, the chemistry between Kevin and Leah was awesome in the stunt episode (s) we did at the end of last season, and we decided we want to continue that. I don't want to address it until we see eventually what's on tape in the first episode".

"It will be treated with dignity and respect, something that will have taken place in the past."
It's unknown how the show will progress, but it is believed that Kevin Gable will be romantically involved with Remini's character, Vanessa.

The move resulted in the axing of actress Erinn Hayes, who played James' wife in the sitcom, and won't be back on the show when it returns for a second season in the fall. They are banking on the team-up's familiarity as Remini and Kevin James used to lead another CBS comedy, "King of Queens".

"I think the show stands for itself", Kahl told reporters.

Meanwhile, Sherman assured the writers that the series will not "morph into 'The King of Queens'". "Much obliged to you for all the help from our superb fans". He added that Season 2 will be a time jump, fast forwarding at least a year, probably longer.
