Ousted Priebus praises Trump, refuses to comment on Scaramucci insults

Reince Priebus has resigned as White House chief of staff a day after a feud among top staffers burst out into the open, in yet another sign of infighting in the administration of US President Donald Trump despite efforts to add more clarity to their tax reform goals. "The president needs someone who understands the Trump constituency as his chief of staff, someone who has both administrative skills and political savvy", Roger Stone, Trump's off-and-on adviser, said, anticipating Kelly's selection before the announcement was made.

As Homeland Security secretary, Kelly was tasked with protecting USA borders and overseeing immigration policies, two centerpieces of Trump's presidential campaign. When Scaramucci joined the White House staff last week, it became clear that he would have some of the responsibilities and access normally designated only to the chief of staff. Scaramucci, in his first White House press briefing, said he would report to the president directly, rather than to Priebus, and said he had the authority to fire people. "He is a Great American", the tweet stated. John has also done a spectacular job at Homeland Security.

Priebus has grown increasingly isolated in the White House, as past Republican National Committee colleagues and other allies have left or been pushed out of the West Wing.

"Reince Priebus has left it all out on the field, for our party and our country", the statement said. He said his "fear" was being offered a job that forced him to "come up to the Beltway". Scaramucci was reportedly angling for the chief of staff position before Mr. Trump took office, but Priebus was named instead.

The affable and slow-talking Mr Priebus has a particularly close relationship with House Speaker Paul Ryan, who is also from Wisconsin. He went on in the interview to say that Trump needed to end the "chaos" in the White House.

Federal Bureau of Information director who had been leading an investigation into the Trump 2016 presidential campaign's possible collusion with Russian Federation to influence the election outcome, was sacked by Trump in May.

The New Yorker magazine published an interview Thursday in which Scaramucci called Priebus, amid an avalanche of vulgarity, a "paranoid schizophrenic". "I can't think of a better person than General John Kelly to succeed me and I wish him God's blessings and great success", he said.

"I'm doing great", Priebus said.

"I don't think it's over though", Priebus said.

Priebus's departure shakes up the balance of power around Trump, whose inner circle includes chief strategist Steve Bannon; National Economic Director Gary Cohn; Jared Kushner, Trump's senior adviser and son-in-law; Trump's daughter Ivanka Trump, a White House official; and now Scaramucci. John McCain, who cast the decisive vote killing the bare-bones repeal bill early Friday, could be won over - as well as Alaska Sen.

Priebus accompanied Trump on Air Force One for a day trip to Long Island as his fate was being decided.

Gerrit Lansing - White House chief digital officer, stepped down in February after failing to pass an Federal Bureau of Investigation background check, according to Politico.
