Punjab CM announces Rs. 5 lakh reward to cricketer Harmanpreet

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has been bereaved following the sad demise of his mother, Rajmata Mohinder Kaur, who passed away in her Patiala home this evening.

Harmanpreet's father, Harmandar Singh thanked the Punjab CM and said, "I thank CM of Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh for job offer".

These include Governor of Punjab VP Singh Bhadnore, Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana KP Singh, Deputy Speakr Ajaib Singh Bhatti, state's Ministers Brahma Mohindra, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Manpreet Singh Badal, Rana Gurjit Singh, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sadhu Singh Dharmsot, Charanjeet Singh Channi, Razia Sultana and Aruna Chaudhary, besides several party MLAs and MPs.

The Indian team, led by Mithali Raj, lost to England in the ICC Women's World Cup Final in England on July 23.

Praising the Indian vice captain, who hails from Moga district in Punjab, Captain Amarinder said the young girl had done Punjab proud with her superb performance that steered Team India to a semi-final victory and given a tight fight to England in the final match. She was told that there is no provision for employment in Punjab Police for women cricketers.


According to the media reports, Harmanpreet Kaur was once denied a job by the Punjab police.

The Chief Minister lauded Harmanpreet's score of 171 not out off 115 balls in the semi-final, thereby becoming the second highest scorer in women cricket and steering India into the finals of the World Cup. "Would be happy to appoint her DSP if she desires". It is yet to be seen whether Harmanpreet would take up the offer. She is up for a promotion in the Indian Railways, and her name will recommended, and she will be felicitated, once she gets back home.

He also announced a Rs 5 lakh cash award for Kaur.

By sheer weight of their achievements, the Indian women have managed to capture the imagination of the entire nation, and inspire a generation of youngsters.

Hopefully, this campaign will act as a catalyst for several Harmanpreets to follow and succeed in the future.
